Who shoud place your Dental Implants?

Who should place your implant?

You have a missing tooth that needs to be replaced.   Where   do you go to have that procedure performed?  Do you see an oral surgeon, a general dentist, or your periodontist?

Oral surgeons and periodontists are trained in surgical procedures.  General dentists take courses on implants and are knowledgeable in simple implant placement. Where the implant is to be placed should be taken into consideration when choosing who should place your implant.

If the missing tooth is on the upper arch, additional surgical procedures such as a sinus elevation and bone grafting may be necessary.  Implant placement of an anterior tooth presents a greater challenge than a posterior tooth, due to the importance of esthetics.

A periodontist is a better choice for placing implants in an area where esthetics are important.

A periodontist is knowledgeable about the different surgical nuances that influence natural looking results.  A periodontist is trained in gum and tissue management. Proper tissue management at the time of implant placement and during the healing period is vital to achieving the optimal esthetic result.

Maintaining gum tissue health is vital for the implant’s success.  Healthy tissue feeds the bone that supports the implant.

You want an even gum line when you smile, with no visible gray undertones or gaps between the gum tissue and the crown.  The result should be a natural looking tooth.

Which implant would you like for your smile?
